Lytro plans to go 3D

Lytro has plans to roll out 3D capabilities for the Lytro Light Field camera in the form of a firmware upgrade soon. At a Singapore launch event, we were shown a demonstration of Lytro images shot in 3D.

Besides being able to select different focal points after image capture, users can also shift the perspective of a scene slightly. Of course, to view images in full three-dimensional glory, one will need a 3D-compatible laptop or television along with 3D glasses.

The company also told us that it will roll out a new feature to ensure that everything in the image, from the foreground to the background, is kept in focus. We think this will come in handy when you don't have time to focus and need a quick snapshot.
